The portraits of Jérôme Bonaparte
Following his second marriage to Catherine of Württemberg, Jérôme Bonaparte became the king of Westphalia and entrusted Joseph Kinson, a Flemish painter, with his official portraits. In the Salon Napoléonien of the Hôtel de Ville in Ajaccio one finds a portrait depicting Jérôme on the deck of a ship and dressed as a captain. Another painting, in the Maison Bonaparte, is a copy of the equestrian version of the portrait of the king of Westphalia.
In the Musée Fesch there is also a monumental sculpture by Joseph Bosio, made in 1812, in which Jérôme is portrayed in ceremonial clothing. The plaster model of this sculpture was displayed at the Salon of 1810 as a pendant to an ’all’antica’ statue of Jérôme’s wife, Catherine, today housed in the Napoleon Museum of Arenberg.
Bosio also made the busts of the couple now kept in the Academy of Carrara.

From 2 May to 30 September: Monday, Wednesday and Saturday from 10.30 AM to 6 PM; Thursday, Friday and Sunday from 12 PM to 6 PM; Thursdays during the month of August, the museum remains open until 8.30 PM
Day of closure: Tuesdays.
The museum is closed on the following holidays: 25 December, 1 January, 1 November, 11 November, 18 March, Easter Sunday, 1 May.
Admission ticket: full 8.00 euros; reduced 5.00 euros; reduced for tourism operators partnered with the museum 4.00 euros.
